Ifju Szivek Australian Tour 2009

IFJU SZIVEK AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2009
(fr: ifyou sivek)

“You can rest assured that any Ifju Szivek performance will have within it the unbelievable spontaneity, the complete authenticity that their dancing conveys. From this the audience feels that they are not watching a 'production' but rather that they have fallen right into the middle of a celebration. In fact, there is not only dance going on on stage. There is much more. Its totally energizing!"

From Latcho Drom to Gypsy Caravan, the music of Eastern Europe has become an inspiration! Direct from Slovakia this 17 piece group of dancers and musicians breathe a breath of fresh air into traditional dance and music.

The Ifju Szivek Slovak State Hungarian Dance Ensemble is a professional state funded dance group based in Bratislava, Slovakia. The dance is authentic and subtle and beautifully staged. The music, with violins, viola, double bass, vocals and cimbalom, ranges from haunting Gypsy laments to the wild Hungarian, Romanian and Slovak dance music. In the ilk of Stefan Grapelli and Django Reinhart, the musicians are the best in their field and totally awe inspiring!

Dance for strings percussion and piano is a unique look at the Hungarian, Slovakian, Gypsy and Jewish dance and music that inspired Bela Bartok and his work. Supported by local Aboriginal dance groups, Koomurri and Newcastle High Dance Group.

You Think YOU Can Dance?, the raucous and engaging children’s show is set in a classroom where exhilarating live music, spectacular acrobatic dance and the odd wayward student beating a desk with a plastic drink bottle present the folk traditions of Eastern Europe in an exciting new way.

Touring Australia for the second time, Ifju Szivek will perform at the National Multicultural Festival in Canberra, the Seymour Centre in Sydney, Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in Wollongong and The Playhouse, Newcastle this February 2009.

Lingua Loca - Migratory Flight - Visual Arts Exhibition 2008

LINGUA LOCA is a visual arts exhibition exploring multi-cultural identity in Regional Australia.

LINGUA LOCA is a community cultural development initiative for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) artists and artists working with a multicultural focus, from the Illawarra Region. This year Lingua Loca is proud to be part of the Viva la Gong Festival through generous funding from the Cultural services small grants 2008 round of Wollongong city Council

Lingua Loca Exhibition is an opportunity for professional and emerging artists to develop a visual dialogue embracing personal journeys.

This years exhibition theme: ‘MIGRATORY FLIGHT’ is in keeping with the Viva la Gong Festival.

MIGRATORY FLIGHT can be seen broadly in many ways... flight from country, flying, flight of fancy etc. Artists can use a wide range of visual arts media such as: painting, drawing, film, textiles, ceramics, photography, multimedia, mosaics, soundscapes, sculpture etc... Please do not feel restricted in your choice of media, but do keep in mind that the space is inside and will be shared with a group of artists.

LINGUA LOCA will be held at Project Contemporary Artspace, 255 Keira Street Wollongong, showing from Wednesday 1st of October - Sunday 12th October 2008

This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate cultural diversity in the Illawarra.
